GTECH Slot Jockeys win Y’s annual Battle of the Brains Trivia challenge raises $16,000 for community initiatives

2014 Champs 67A3021

There may have been some sweat but no blood or tears Saturday as  the GTECH Slot Jockeys were proclaimed winners of the 2014 Battle of the Brains, the annual trivial challenge held in support of the YMCA of Greater Moncton.

“It was a close fight but there can only be one winner,” joked Bonnie MacFadyen, Manager of Philanthropy at the YMCA of Greater Moncton. “Luckily, everyone had a great time and it was all for a good cause.”

The winning team, comprised of Todd Grimm, Ian Richard, Steve Chenier, Pat Riley, Rhonda Whittaker and Neil Kennedy, defeated last year’s winners, the Nav Canada Air Trivia Controllers, by a single point. During this year’s 10-round competition – which involved 138 participants – teams collectively answered questions on a wide range of topics from sports and art to geography and music. Each team's performance was scored by a panel of judges.

A total of $16,000 was raised in this year’s Battle of the Brains, with $130,000 collected through the event since it began in 2002.
