The YMCA Youth Employment Program is a 24 week paid program for youth to gain the necessary life and employability skills in order to succeed in life either through furthering their education or by accessing employment.
Program Objectives
- helps youth facing barriers to employment develop the broad range of skills, knowledge and work experience they need to participate in the job market,
- client-centered program, designed to respond to the individual needs of youth facing barriers to employment;
- Offers a wide range of activities that are tailored to meet individual needs.
Programming includes:
- Self-esteem and self-care
- Interpersonal relationships
- Health and wellness
- Food safety and preparation
- Money management
- Employment skills
Youth will gain KNOWLEDGE while attending classes, workshops and learning about themselves and their community.
Youth will gain EXPERIENCE by volunteering in different non-profit organizations and being involved in other on the job training experiences.
Eligible Youth Participants
- between the ages of 16 and 29 (inclusive) at time of intake/selection;
- in need of assistance to overcome employment barriers;
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons on whom refugee protection has been conferred;
- out of school;
- legally entitled to work according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations; and
- not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits.
