On Saturday, March 26th, $17,589.41 was raised at the 10th annual YMCA Battle of the Brains fundraising event. Much needed funds were raised for the YMCA community development department to support such programs as Reconnect Street Intervention program, YMCA Caring Community Food Bank and the Youth Tutor Program.
Community rivalry and philanthropy took on new meanings as over 150 individuals tested their high IQ, in a bid for the Battle of the Brains Championship Belt and helped raise funds toward the YMCA's Community Development Programs which include ReConnect Street Intervention Program, Youth Tutor Club and Food Bank.
"We are grateful to all the participants that support YMCA's Battle of the Brains," says Zane Korytko, CEO of YMCA of Greater Moncton. They help raise much needed funds that will go towards the YMCA Community Development, which provides quality social and educational programs and services in the Greater Moncton area."
The event featured 10 intense rounds of skill-testing questions about; Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, famous TV living rooms and historical battles. The maritime sports category had a special twist featuring Jayson Baxter from CTV News. In the end, triumphed The Big Brain Theory over such event rivals as SPIELO Real Deals (second place) and C103 War Pigs (third place).
The Big Brain Theory Team Captain Dawn Arnold states: "The Big Brain Theory had an amazing time at the Battle of the Brains and we were thrilled to win the esteemed belt and trophy. It was a huge honour, especially considering the tough competition. Only one team member had ever participated in the competition before (this was Christine Manore's third first place finish), but the win was completely a team effort. The pressure is already on for next year since we definitely want to defend our championship and we encourage more teams to participate in this thoroughly enjoyable and very well run event. "
This event would not have been possible without our sponsors: XL96 Today's Best Country/C103, Pepsi Bottling Group, Tel Av, Dominos Pizza, AVW Tel AV, and CTV.
